Dear Athletes,

As announced on the WDSF Website, another WDSF Athletes FORUM was held on the 29.10.2011 during the Russian Open (including the WDSF World DanceSport Championship Standard) in Moscow.

It was yet another occasion to exchange ideas, objectives and views of all Athletes with their Commission in order to represent the best interest of all our Athletes and to enhance the communication between WDSF, the Athletes Commission and the dancers.

The most important topics for this meeting:

1) General Presentation of the WDSF Athletes Commission
We still feel, that not all Athletes are aware of the work and the structure of this quite newly installed Commission. Therefore we explained to the Audience that the WDSF Athletes Commission is the direct link between all WDSF registered Couples and the WDSF Presidium. We strongly believe that all Athletes should play an integral role in the development and organisation of our beautiful artistic sport. Please find attached once more the structure of our Commission. It is organised along the following:

  1. A chairperson, who also is a Member of the WDSF Presidium;
  2. Representatives of three different Categories (Youth, Senior and PD); and
  3. Regional Representatives (Africa, The Americas, Asia/Oceania & Europe).

The Regional Representatives will be elected on regional Athletes Forum. Further regional Forums are being planned for 2011 and 2012.

Please find below the structure and representatives as they are now:

2) Open Forum and Discussion
The purpose of an Open Forum is to give all Couples a chance to give their opinion on whatever they believe is necessary to discuss. It is important for us to collect ideas, wishes and requests of our Couples to provide the WDSF Presidium with useful information in order to adopt those ideas into our regulations. Various Topics were discussed during this Forum.

3) Election of European WDSF Athletes Commission Representative
One of the objectives of these regional Forums is to elect a regional representative for the WDSF Athletes Commission. As it was an Athletes Forum in Europe, we held an election of the European Athletes Commission representative.

There were two candidates:
Benedetto Ferruggia (GER) and Ashli Williamson (DEN),

Both athletes introduced themselves shortly and addressed their ideas and visions to all athletes present. After counting the votes Ashli Williamson from Denmark was elected by the athletes to serve as their European Athletes Commission Representative.

In due time all contact details of all representatives will be published on the Athletes Commission part of the WDSF website.

4) Lectures
As a gesture to all attendants and part of the idea to develop these Athletes forums to make them more interesting, two renowned trainers were invited to give a lecture: Mr. Frank Venables (UK) and Mr. Petr Horacek (Slovakia). Our sincere thanks go to the both of them for giving such wonderful lectures that were highly appreciated by the athletes.

Our special thanks go to Pavel Dorokov and the DSFR for supporting this meeting.

4 November 2011,
The Athletes Commission

IDSF Athletes’ Commission Online!

•06/19/2010 • Comments Off

The dedicated website of the IDSF Athletes’ Commission gets rolled out today together with the “Live from Ostrava” blog . It aims to provide the community of athletes with information and a direct link to their representatives.

Commission Chairman Timo Kulcak, GER, cannot compete in this year’s European Latin in Ostrava: he is still recovering from an injury – and his partner Motshegetsi Mabuse is currently on assignment in South Africa. There she covers the FIFA World Cup for German public broadcaster ARD.

The Commission’s platform – as well as this blog – will eventually be incorporated into the structure of the new IDSF website. The look and feel of latter has already been presented to the delegates at last week’s Annual General Meeting.

Bound for Vienna

Timo Kulcak of the IDSF Athletes’ Commission will attend the 2010 General Meeting (AGM) in Vienna, AUT, on 13 June. Prior to presenting the Commission and its agenda to the delegates – during the IDSF Forum on Saturday, 12 June – he will brief the Presidium on progress in their work. Alina Basiuk is unfortunately unable to attend.

However, Alina and Timo have prepared a written report, summarising the key points which were addressed by them over the past six months. It was distributed to the 88 National Member Bodies on 26 May.

In their report, Alina and Timo call on all national bodies to establish their own athletes’ representation – with full voting rights - within their structures, and to tie the representations in with the IDSF Commission.

The 2010 Athletes’ Forum – as the premiere of the platform for discussion between all athletes – is taking shape. Even if the exact date, time and location for this gathering are not yet determined, it will coincide

First Call To National Member Bodies

The Athletes’ Commission called on the 88 IDSF National Member Bodies to submit contact details of representatives and spokespersons for the athletes’ community in each country.

“In order to commence a dialogue between all athletes’ representatives worldwide, we would like you to provide us with the contact details of your representives,” Alina and Timo wrote in a letter which went out to the 88 IDSF Member Bodies on 18 February 2010. The latter were expected to submit this and related information by 1 April 2010.

A number of national DanceSport federations reported on this and other activities by the IDSF Athletes’ Commission on their websites.

Meeting In Barcelona, ESP

The IDSF Athletes’ Commission held its first reunion and met with the IDSF Presidium on 15 and 16 January 2010 in Barcelona, Spain. The first exchange of views on a range of topics between the Commission and Presidium members was  marked by mutual understanding and the determination to improve the dialogue further.

The IDSF Athletes’ Commission is made up of Alina Basiuk (RUS) and Timo Kulcak (GER). The two were elected by their peers at the recent World DanceSport Championships in Latin and Standard.

“Improved communication between us, the athletes, and IDSF tops our agenda at this point,” said Timo Kulcak, after discussing many of the concerns brought up by fellow competitors with Secertary General Marco Sietas and Sports Director Heinz Spaeker on the first day.

On day two, Alina and Timo presented the Presidium with their suggestions for the optimal integration of athletes’ into the decision-making processes of IDSF.

President Carlos Freitag confirmed that the Athletes’ Commission receives full support from the Presidium, emphasising that the commission members would be assissted in their tasks by all organs and structures within IDSF.

Following a suggestion made by Alina and Timo, the Presidium agreed to launch a dedicated section on the IDSF website for the new Commission to inform fellow athletes about its activities, and to eventually serve as a forum for discussion.

The First Post

Welcome to idsfathletes.wordpress.com! This website is dedicated to provide you, the athletes in DanceSport, with information on the initiatives and activities undertaken by your elected representatives making up the IDSF Athletes’ Commission.

It is a simple blog for the time being. Once the overhaul of the new IDSF website is concluded, by September 2010, these pages and posts will be incorporated into the appropriate section of worlddancesport.org, with further functionality being added at that time.
